What is vinylcut ?
Vinylcut is a website which has been created in order to share information about how vinyl represses are made :
- Which master has been used :
has it been sourced from the original master tape ? Is the master digital ? Is it sourced from CD or worse ?
- Has the repress been mastered specifically for vinyl ?
- How does a specific pressing sound ? This is whart matters most in the end, if like I do, you'd like to buy the best sounding pressing of a record
I have been collecting vinyl records for more than 10 years now, and I have always found it difficult to find information about how a pecific vinyl repress has been handled. One can find information on several forums on the web, or even on Discogs, but I thought that it would be interesting to gather this data on a dedicated website : vinylcut.net was born ;-)
In order to be efficient, vinylcut is linked to the Discogs database, which makes it very easy to add a pressing : as long as a pressing is available on Discogs, you can add it to Vinylcut.
I hope you geeks will enjoy this website, and help maintain it, for sources and mastering are great fun !
