Don’t worry, we didn’t forget—our April monthly vinyl giveaway is now live. Each month we give away free vinyl to one cherished subscriber on our paid tier.

But first we’d like to welcome all the new subscribers that have joined us in the past week or so. Thank you for signing up! We’re enormously happy you’re here.

For those of you who may be new, here’s the skinny on our paid tier: It’s $5 a month or $50 for a year, and it supports our work and makes The Vinyl Cut possible. That’s what we get, but what do you get? (Other than the priceless sense of well-being that comes from supporting independent music journalism?) Well, for starters, it gives you full access to our entire archives. Right now free subscribers can read articles on the Vinyl Cut site from the past six months, but not beyond that, and as we write more and more, that back catalog will only keep growing. We also occasionally publish new reviews and articles that only our paid subscribers can read.

Plus, paid subscribers get exclusive playlists as part of our weekly rundowns of the newest vinyl reissues. These playlists are currently playable on Apple Music, Tidal, and Spotify. Also! Paid subscribers can now leave comments on all of our posts. While this is still a new development, we’re hoping to turn the comments section into a robust community where you can let us and other readers know what you think about this reissue or that.

Lastly, and perhaps bestly, paid subscribers are eligible to enter our monthly vinyl giveaway! This is exactly what it sounds like: We mail out free records each month. As of this moment, it doesn’t matter where in the world you are—we’ll mail it to you if you win.

This week’s monthly vinyl giveaway is for a new copy of the Rhino Reserve edition of John Coltrane’s immortal masterwork Giant Steps, which he released in 1960 on Atlantic Records. This phenomenal pressing comes from the analog stereo master, newly cut from the original tape by Matthew Lutthans at the Mastering Lab and pressed at Fidelity Record Pressing. It deserves to be in the conversation as one of the best-sounding versions of Giant Steps ever.

And we’re giving a copy away to one worthy paid subscriber. Entries for this month’s giveaway are open until 11:59 pm Pacific time on Monday, April 27, so if you still need to upgrade, you have a week to do so.

Here’s how to enter:
