Win a copy of the Rokk Í Reykjavík soundtrack!
One copy of the new reissue of Rokk Í Reykjavík from Arena Rock will be given away to a paid subscriber.
Earlier this week I wrote about the fascinating, jam-packed soundtrack to Rokk Í Reykjavík, the 1982 documentary about the Icelandic music scene. It’s filled with punk, post-punk, and new wave bands that were creating a music scene out of thin air, in an enclave far from the pop epicenters in the US, the UK, and Europe. The film happened to catch a particularly fertile explosion of talent and ideas that was happening in Reykjavík in the early ’80s, and the soundtrack contains all of those performances—many of them captured live—and more.

Original copies of the double LP are quite rare, but Portland label Arena Rock Recording Company has finally brought it back into print on vinyl. And we’re giving away one copy to a lucky subscriber on our paid tier. Big, BIG thanks to Arena Rock for providing this copy to a lucky reader.
Do you want to be eligible for these monthly giveaways but haven’t upgraded yet? Well, there’s no time like the present, so click this button right here and join the cool kids.
Paid subscribers are able enter these exciting monthly vinyl giveaways, plus they also get access to the entire site archives—unlike free subscribers, who currently can only go back six months. As the site grows and The Vinyl Cut’s trove of record reviews expands, this will only become more valuable as a reference as time goes on. (See? We’re thinking ahead here.)
Plus, paid subscribers get weekly playlists with tunes selected from all of the new vinyl reissues coming out that week. Aren’t sure whether you want to pony up for the latest 45 RPM double LP reissue of the album you kinda sorta liked in college? Thinking of taking a chance on a new AAA jazz pressing but would like to get a taste before committing? Not sure if the new Fleetwood Mac reissue comes from the era you like or the one you definitely don’t? Or maybe vinyl simply isn’t in the budget this week, but you still want to hear all of the new stuff? Our playlists have got you covered.
Folks on our paid tier are also able to comment on any article they wish (don’t be shy, paid-tier subscribers!). Best of all, paid subscribers get to directly support The Vinyl Cut and its writing, which is generated entirely by the movement of an actual human being’s fingers.
You can enter this giveaway until 11:59 pm Pacific time on Sunday, August 2, so you’ve got plenty of time to upgrade your subscription.
